Dear Susan;

Re: Speaking Engagement in Calgary, September 15th, 1998

Firstly, I wanted to take the time to thank you for doing this engagement on such short notice. It was very kind to undertake such a program.

The success of your talk to the sales representative helped us understand and achieve our goals for 1998. Specifically, the part of the talk that likely had the greatest impact was when you spoke about being injured and still being able to compete and win a Silver medal; that was inspiring.

There was also a great impact with your video presentation because it puts into perspective the intensity of being an elite athlete, but the fact that it is only because of personal ambition and motivation that can take you to that level. That type of message translated well for the representatives because they can relate it to their own experiences in the sales field. They, too, can become an "elite" salesperson through perseverance and determination.

Lastly, the team aspect that I wanted you to address was the highlight of your speech for me. It is really difficult sometimes for representatives to see why being part of a team is more beneficial to their sales than being an individual achiever. The story about your becoming part of the local speed skating team and then going on to work side by side with Catriona LeMay Doan, was just the type of message that I had hoped would be delivered. In light of the nature of your sport, I think that the representatives did not expect you to have such a strong team ethic. Thank you for making such an important point about this value.

In conclusion, I would like to wish you a Happy New Year and hope that this letter finds you healthy. I look forward to the opportunity to hear you speak again.

Best Regards,
